My
name is Angela Johnson and I am the Executive Director of CHALK
Preschools. I was born and raised in Chicago. I graduated from
Southern Illinois University in 2001 with a Bachelors Degree
in Elementary Education and took additional Master’s level
classes in Early Childhood. I have worked in the childcare field
for over 14 years as both a teacher and a director. I was given
the best career opportunity in September of 2004 to move to
Bloomington, Illinois and help start the first CHALK Preschool.
In August of 2006 I moved back to Chicago to once again work
closely with the Oleff’s to start CHALK of Lakeview/Chicago
(December 2006) and CHALK of Clybourn Corridor/Chicago (October
2007). I am very excited to get to know all of the new families
that have joined ours at CHALK.

Hi!
My name is April Schafer. I am very excited to be a part of
CHALK preschool! As an administrator I will be at the front
desk, please don’t hesitate to stop by and visit me! I
am originally from Grosse Pointe, Michigan, a suburb of Detroit,
and graduated in 2005 with a Bachelor of Science in Family and
Child Ecology from Michigan State University. After graduation
I moved to Chicago and was the lead teacher at a preschool in
Evanston for two years. I am currently attending DePaul University
to obtain my Master’s in Elementary Education. In my free
time I enjoy spending time with friends, shopping, traveling,
going to the beach, skiing and going out to eat. I look forward
to working with all of the families at CHALK preschool! |

Hi!
My name is Danielle Garcia. I am very excited to have the
opportunity to be at CHALK. I graduated from Northeastern
University in Boston with a BS in Psychology and a minor in
Elementary Education. This past November, I got married in
the Dominican Republic and moved downtown with my husband,
Jose. I have lived in Chicago for 3 years now and have been
teaching young children for many years. In my free time I
enjoy traveling, spending time with friends and dining out.

Hi!
My name is Ali Weinberg and I am one of the teachers in the
Orange Room. I grew up in a suburb of Milwaukee. I earned
a Bachelor’s degree in Speech Pathology from the University
of Wisconsin, Milwaukee, where I also took classes in art,
diversity and, believe it or not, bowling (3 credits). Good
stuff.
After
graduating, I took a preschool teaching position where I realized
how much I enjoyed working with children. It turned out to
be just the incentive I needed to continue my education and
I completed an Early Childhood Certification program soon
after.
I
moved to the Chicago area last fall and I am enjoying what
the city has to offer. For now that means brunches at The
Flying Saucer, reconnecting with old friends and seeing the
occasional band at Schuba’s or The Empty Bottle (though
my ever-shrinking bed time doesn’t make it easy). I
look forward to meeting you. |

CHALK families!! My name is Susan Booth and I am a co-teacher
in the orange room. I just graduated from the University of
Illinois at Urbana-Champaign with a degree in elementary education.
I spent my last three summers working at CHALK Preschool in
Bloomington, IL. After graduation I decided to move to Chicago
and I love living here and experiencing all it has to offer.
I truly enjoy my time working with children and am so excited
to be apart of the new CHALK Preschool. I cannot wait to meet
all of you and to be a part of your child’s learning and
growth. |

Hi!
My name is Robin Singer and I am a teacher in the yellow room!
I grew up in Buffalo Grove, which is located in the northwest
suburbs of Chicago, and I have recently moved to the city. I
graduated from Northeastern Illinois University with a B.A.
in Elementary Education and a minor in English. I have previously
worked with children in many different settings, and working
in a preschool right after high school made me realize that
I loved being around young children! During my free time I enjoy
being outside (especially during the summers), rollerblading,
reading, and traveling. I am very excited to be able to work
with all of the children that come to CHALK and to get to know
their families as well! |

Hello!
My name is Megan Eiler and I am very excited to be one of the
teachers in the Yellow Room. I am originally from Shelbyville
Indiana but lived in Cincinnati, Ohio for a year before moving
to Chicago in May 2008. I graduated from Hanover College, a
small Liberal Arts College in southern Indiana, in May 2006
with a Sociology degree and my elementary education certification.
Since graduating from college, I have had many great experiences
working with children. I had the opportunity to teach Pre Kindergarten
at a school in Cincinnati, and enjoyed the children and all
the memories I made with them. I am greatly looking forward
to meeting and working with all the wonderful families at CHALK
preschool. |

My name is Amy Letcher, and I'm so excited to be teaching
in the Blue Room! I have my Bachelor's degree in Music Education
from the University of Iowa, and I'm currently working towards
my Master's degree in Early Childhood Education at DePaul
University. As much as I loved being a band director, I realized
that I loved working with young children even more. After
growing up in Iowa, I am loving Chicago and I can't wait to
meet all of you! |

Hello
there! I am Brittany Walowitz and I am so excited to be co-teaching
with Amy in the blue room! I am originally from Northbrook,
a northern suburb of Chicago, and recently moved downtown!
I graduated from Indiana University in May- go Hoosiers! I
received my Bachelors Degree in general studies with a double
minor in human development and sociology.
I worked
as a counselor at a summer camp for three years and also spent
time providing private child care. I absolutely loved both
experiences! I am so excited to be a part of the staff at
CHALK preschool and look forward to meeting everyone!

My name is Amanda Murray and I am very excited to be a teacher
in the Green Room at CHALK Preschool. I grew up in Grosse Pointe,
Michigan (Detroit area) and am a new-comer to the city! I graduated
from Central Michigan University June 2007 and acquired my B.S.
degree in Psychology and Sociology with an emphasis on Child
Development. I have always loved working with kids, whether
it was babysitting or just playing with all of the kids in my
large family. I am so thrilled to be a part of this wonderful
program and cannot wait to get to know you and your family!
I know your kids are your life, and I cannot wait to make them
apart of mine as well. |

My name is Sarah Leary and I am one of the teachers in the green
room! I graduated from Michigan State University in 2006 and
will be attending DePaul University starting this fall to obtain
my masters degree in early childhood education. I am originally
from Livonia, MI and moved to Chicago immediately after completing
college, and have loved the city ever since! In my spare time
I enjoy going to the beach, eating out, spending time with my
friends, and visiting my family in Michigan. I am very excited
for this opportunity and to meet and work with all of the great
families at CHALK! |
